Creatives for Our Future Film Produced by BBC StoryWorks

14 September 2023

As part of a new series ‘The Climate and Us’ produced for the Global Climate and Health Alliance by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions, the Swarovski Foundation created a film that explores the effect climate change has on our health. The film highlights the journey of Creatives for Our Future alumni Joshua Ichor and his commitment to safeguarding water sources in Nigeria.

The Climate and Us, presented by the Global Climate and Health Alliance, explores how the climate crisis is affecting human health, and how solutions from individuals and organisations are seeking to respond to the damage. Through 31 compelling stories spanning six continents, the series explores the realities faced by people worldwide – from the wildfires destroying homes in California, to the air pollution smothering residents in Jakarta to the strain on people’s access to clean water in Nigeria.

As part of the series, the Swarovski Foundation created a 6-minute feature film which follows a graduate of the Creatives for Our Future program Joshua Ichor as he develops his Geotek Monitor and Water Kiosks through the program. Tosin Oshinowo, longstanding program advocate and Nigerian architect, shares her insights as a program mentor and how innovators like Joshua are making a positive impact.

The entire series is hosted on a curated hub site available on BBC.com. Each episode focuses on a different story – from the young people reconnecting with themselves through a surf school, to the company planning to use biomethane to produce medicines –and explores a range of impacts climate change is having on our health and the solutions being implemented to mitigate them. Through thought-provoking storytelling, interviews with both experts and the people living with the realities of climate change every day, and important scientific research, the series underlines the importance of public health in the midst of this global crisis.
